Excavators began clawing into the bogland and stripping off the top cover of earth as a fresh search began on Monday at Bragan in Carrickroe, near Emyvale, for the body of Columba McVeigh. The 19 yearold single man from Donaghamore, Co. Tyrone, was abducted, killed and secretly buried by the IRA in 1975. The search is being carried out over a one acre site, close to a woodland area which has been excavated on four previous occasions in an attempt to locate Columba’s remains. He had allegedly incurred the wrath of the republican paramilitary group and had moved from his home to Dublin before he disappeared.

EMOTIONAL TURMOIL FOR MCVEIGH FAMILY
The start of the search operation coincided with the 21st anniversary of the death of Columba’s father Paddy and this has added to the ‘emotional turmoil’ the family….
