The GAA’s ‘nothing beats being there’ mantra certainly rang true at Celtic Park last Sunday. Derry and Down produced such a pulsating championship joust that it must surely have set the pulses racing of even the most curmudgeon armchair viewer.
The contest made for rivetting viewing and left Monaghan and Antrim with a lot to live up to this when they go head-to-head this Sunday at Casement Park.
Antrim boss Frank Dawson is confident that, whatever the result, his side and Monaghan won’t let the current quotient of entertainment on offer up North slip this weekend:
“This is our first year at the helm with Antrim but I think the way we play has done down well with the football purists in our midst,” Dawson told the Northern Standard this week.
“We have purposely tried to change Antrim’s style of football to a more cavalier-type of game while still being mindful of the work that needs to be put in at the back.
“I like to send my teams out to win, not out to not lose and that policy has worked to a large extent for me in my time as a manager.
