Following their disappointing defeat against Derry in the preliminary round of the new Ulster Minor (Under- 17) Championship, Monaghan have a chance to resurrect their fortunes this Saturday when they travel to Belfast to take on the home side, Antrim, in Corrigan Park, in what is a sudden death situation with the losers eliminated and the winners going through to a game against Donegal in round 2 of the qualifiers.
Monaghan went into their opening round game against Derry as league champions and were in a strong position to progress for long periods in that contest in Celtic Park, only to be caught right at the death in extra time with a goal that wiped out the 2 points lead that they held at that stage and inflicted on them a bitter one point defeat.
Monaghan will be determined to let no such situation develop on Saturday against a team that is also fighting for survival, having lost their quarter-final last Saturday to Fermanagh, in a game where the concession of goals at vital times cost the Saffrons dearly.
