LOCAL MEP Matt Carthy engaged in hour-long top-level talks this week on the uncertain implications of Brexit for the Border region, including Co. Monaghan, pending the forthcoming withdrawal of Britain from the EU. The Carrickmacross-based Sinn Fein MEP had the discussions in Brussels with Michel Barnier, a key EU negotiator who holds most clout regarding Brexit, and a top EU figure who, incidentally, has not engaged in discussions with other political figures, including government ministers.
