ALL sections of the Co Monaghan community were shocked and saddened on Wednesday of last week to learn of the tragic death in a road traffic collision of a much loved retired parish priest who was well known through the entirety of the county, writes Patsy McArdle.
Very Rev Fr Joe McCluskey, who was a former parish priest in Corcaghan and Threemilehouse for more than two decades, also served as parish priest in the South Monaghan parish of Killanny, prior to retirement.
He died after his car collided with a truck on the N2 Dublin- Derry Road between Carrickmacross and Castleblayney, close to McCaughey’s service station at Broomfield.
The driver of the lorry was taken by ambulance to hospital and his injuries were not lifethreatening. The road was closed to traffic…
