THE LATE MARY CHRISTMAS (NEE MCADAM) 1925-2013 ARDRAGH AND DUNDALK

Mary Christmas (nee McAdam) of ‘’Seaview House’, Rathcor, Riverstown, Dundalk, passed away peacefully in the tender care of Carlingford Nursing Home on April 21st, 2013 after an illness borne with great dignity, courage and faith.
She was educated in Corvally Presbyterian School and Viscount Weymouth Grammar School, Carrickmacross.
Mary was a gentle woman in every sense of the word and loved nothing better than keeping in touch with her family and friends at home and away through letters and phone calls.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her love of the land and farming played an important role in her life. She was a former member of the Mothers’ Union and the local Cooley ICA.
Mary had a strong faith and attended her local parish Church of Ireland regularly and also supported her home Church at Corvally.
Indeed she was very proud to attend the re-openings of her former schoolhouse at Corvally and her husband’s former schoolhouse at Bush as church halls.
Throughout her life Mary loved receiving visitors to her home from far and near. Her warm welcome, chat and home-baking will be fondly remembered by those relatives and friends both close to home and from overseas.
This was especially evident in the numbers of people who called to the house and attended Mary’s funeral.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Thornton and Christina McAdam and her brother Thomas McAdam, (all Ardragh).
She is survived by her husband Herbert, daughter Heather, son Freddie, son-in-law Mark, daughter-in-law Nicky, grandchildren Graham, Rachel, Scott, Laura and Jake and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends.
Having reposed at her home, Mary’s remains were removed to St. Nicholas’ Parish Church Dundalk where the service was conducted by Rev. Richard Moore assisted by Rodney McDowell.
The readings were given by nephew Allen McAdam and niece Helen Christmas. The Church choir, accompanied by organist Mrs. Evelyn McCullins, lead the beautiful singing which included Mary’s favourite hymn ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’. After the service the burial took place in St. Andrews’ Churchyard, Bush.
