NEW ROUTE FROM SMITHBOROUGH TO MIDDLETOWN IS A BREXIT-BREAKER: SHANE ROSS

This cross-border scheme is “a Brexit-breaker”, according to Transport Minister Shane Ross. He joined Minister Heather Humphreys on Monday at the launch of a major upgrade of the Ulster Canal Greenway in County Monaghan.
The greenway walking and cycle route around Monaghan town will be extended towards Smithborough in one direction and eastwards into the North up to Middletown in County Armagh. The project will cost €4.95 million and according to the head of Waterways Ireland, the lead partner behind the project, it has tremendous potential to bring in visitors and boost the economy of the region.
Minister Ross stated: “This is a wonderful initiative. It’s a particularly special greenway because it is a cross-border initiative. Anything that brings different traditions together is special for this government. The timing is interesting because we do not know what will happen about Brexit. So it is tremendous to see things opening up…
