OVER 2,500 PARTICIPATE IN MONAGHAN DARKNESS INTO LIGHT

2017 Monaghan Darkness Into Light event, which took place in the early hours of last Saturday morning, was hailed a resounding success by organisers with over 2,500 people taking part.

This was the fourth year that Monaghan participated in the national fundraiser for Pieta House and the 5K walk and run was facilitated by Monaghan Harps GAA Club.

Speaking to The Northern Standard, one of the 30 organisers behind the Monaghan event, Sean McKenna, said that an increase in people taking part in this event both nationally and internationally had been recorded and it was great to see Co Monaghan tying in with this trend.

“We were absolutely thrilled with the turn out and the fact that people from outside the county came to take part. It’s heartening to see this especially when you consider the cause. An event like this generates a conversation about suicide which is a positive thing as for so long it was a taboo subject,” said Mr McKenna.

The good weather on the morning of the Darkness Into Light walk / run was a welcome bonus and Mr McKenna added that it was nice to see…
