THE brothers and sisters who were victims of a litany of sex offences, including rape, carried out on them by a man living in the Cootehill area have called on anyone who has had similar horrific experiences to come forward and seek help from either the Garda or other support agencies.
At the Central Criminal Court on Monday, 49-year-old Michael McCarville, who is originally from Ballybay but was living at Longfield, Lisboduff, Cootehill, Co Cavan, was given a 20-year prison sentence for the offences, which took place between 1982, when he was just 15 himself, and 1999.
In their statement (printed in full below) the five brothers and two sisters in question also thanked the gardai, the Rape Crisis Centre and other groups for all the support they had been offered, and also expressed the wish that they had “taken action sooner”.
