But Minister Humphreys absent and criticises Fianna Fáil for ‘grandstanding’
These are tense times in the Dáil. On Tuesday evening deputies were dealing with “statements of clarification on statements made by the Taoiseach and Ministers” over the Garda Maurice McCabe case.
Minister Heather Humphreys was present in the Dáil earlier when the Taoiseach answered questions in relation to Maurice McCabe during Leaders’ Questions. But by 9pm when the order of business moved on to a private members motion put forward by Fianna Fáil on the North/South interconnector, the Fine Gael Deputy for Cavan/Monaghan was no longer present.
Monaghan Fianna Fáil Councillor Seamus Coyle who was in the visitors gallery along with his party colleague, Cllr PJ O’Hanlon, Cathaoirleach, said the absence of Minister Humphreys and the government Chief Whip Regina Doherty TD (Meath East) amounted to a total abdication of responsibility to the communites of Monaghan, Cavan and Meath. But Minister Humphreys said she would continue to represent the views and concerns of the people of Cavan and Monaghan on this issue.
