THE family of a young Co. Monaghan law student who was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he cycled on the main N2 Dublin/Derry Road near his home have claimed that “successive garda failures” in the Cavan/Monaghan Division contributed to the death.
Yesterday (Tues) Mrs. Lucia O’Farrell of Carrickmacross, claimed that despite the case being referred at the time to the Garda Ombudsman relating to the death of her son, Shane O’Farrell, “no effective action was taken”.
The claim came as a decision was announced for the setting up of a Tribunal of Inquiry to deal with the controversy raging over the past few weeks in relation to the case…
