Monaghan secondary school, St Macartan’s College, recently won big in a national fitness challenge.
The all boys school, which has over 600 students in attendance, won four titles in total at the Irish Life Health Schools Fitness Challenge awards ceremony – The Fittest Boys School in Ireland, The Most Improved Boys School, The Most Improved School in Ireland and overall Fittest School in Ireland.
Over 700 students from across Co Monaghan participated in the fitness challenge and St Macartan’s was represented by its junior students. Over 300 students from first to third year were tested using the Beep test method, which measures endurance and agility, at the start of the school year last September and were tested a few times again until December.
Speaking to The Northern Standard, school principal Raymond McHugh expressed his delight that the school’s efforts in the fitness challenge had been recognised.
