Monaghan Co Council on Monday adopted an urgent business motion tabled by the Sinn Féin grouping in response to concern in the North Monaghan area about delays in ambulances responding to a number of recent medical emergency situations.
The motion read, “That this Council supports recent calls for accountability and explanations from the National Ambulance Service, the HSE and the Minister for Health regarding the inadequate ambulance cover and resulting delays recently and regularly experienced by citizens in Monaghan.”
The motion was moved by North Monaghan councillor Sean Conlon, who said it arose out of a number of incidents that took place around the Christmas and New Year period in Monaghan Town. These represented a situation that had occurred numerous times, and probably happened more frequently than they were aware of.
People had contacted their local elected representatives to vent their justifiable anger about the most recent incidents and ensure that this was passed on to the appropriate agencies.
Councillor Conlon said that the holiday period and any related rostering issues could not be accepted as an excuse. People who signed up ….
