Blues legend Leo Bud Welch strikes a resonant chord upon his arrival in Monaghan Town yesterday, Wednesday evening to prepare for his performances in this weekend’s Harvest Time Blues Festival. Welch, proclaimed as the last of the authentic Mississippi Delta bluesman following the death of BB King in 2015, is partnering local drummer Gavin Taylor for gigs in McKenna’s and Terry’s Bar as well as his marquee performance. He is also due to make a guest appearance at The Shamrock Bar’s Blues Jam.

Welch’s appearance in Monaghan coincides with the pending release of a feature-length documentary about his life, Late Blossom Blues.

Our picture by Rory Geary shows the legendary Delta, country and gospel blues exponent tuning up on the marquee stage, watched by another of the weekend’s performers Vencie Vernardo from Tennessee, and two of the founding figures of the Harvest Time festival Joe Corr and Seamie McKenna.
