A COUNTY Monaghan family has achieved a unique phenomenal record by claiming the World Line Dance Championship for— FIVE YEARS IN A ROW !
The Courtney sisters, from Corravoo, near Castleblayney, are the toast of Ireland for their unprecedented achievement last week at the Blackpool Winter Gardens in England, where they competed successfully against the world’s top dancers.
Sinead (17), Emma (16), and Karina Courtney (12), daughters of justifiably proud parents, Peter and Bridgie Courtney, have created a new world record for the Co. Monaghan family, by winning the hugely coveted world laurels for the FIFTH successive year!
It was a truly amazing feat for the young dancers in an event which sees the symmetrical performances of the world’s top competitors getting better each year.
It was also an achievement by the Courtney sisters, never seen before in the international arena.
The three girls were accompanied by their mother to the prestigious world event.
Sinead and Emma danced together in the ‘Partner and Duo’ division, and they were declared outright worthy winners of both divisions—uniquely claiming the world title for the fifth year in a row!.
Karina also competed in the ‘Partner’ division with another competitor, Seannain Murphy, for their first time, and reached the finals to claim 6th place The girls also danced together in the ‘Standard Team’ division with their club, ‘Struttin Stars’ and took second place.
It was noted that 17-years-old Sinead, who is a 6th year student at Our Lady’s Secondary School, Castleblayney, competed for her first time in the ‘Advanced Young Adult’ division, dancing in heats on Friday and Saturday and taking 2nd place in the final on Sunday. This was no easy achievement…
